I'm trying to identify a fe motor. It has the 352 stamp up front. I find no numbers on the pasenger side, the starter is out and the nose is off the truck so I have a good view. I did get the numbers by the fuel pump but thats it.??? I have heard the term "service motor"??? Thanks
the 352 stamped on the front dont mean anything cuz most FE's had it, i have heard of blocks with no casting #'s i have one myself, the only true way to really tell is do a stroke check, do a search on a stroke check yu will find plenty of info.
390's had slipper skirt pistons in them. if you can pull the pan off you can tell pretty quick. if the pistons come down to a point a flat point on either side, its a 390, if they are flat all the way around, its a 352/360
A LOT of 360's also had slipperier skirt pistons, so this really isn't a good indicator. I've got a 360 out in the garage that has them, and my brother pulled one apart many years ago that had the slipperier skirt pistons in it. They even had "360" cast right into them.
oh. i did not know that
good information. i have a motor now that i was assuming was a 390 because of the slipper skirts, and was going to be rebuilding it for my 65 f250 4x4. guess i should look a little closer, though i guess it may not matter that much for what i was going to do. thank you, jim
Is this engine disassembled already ? If yes, give us the casting # on the crank and we'll help you figure it out. If it IS a 352 or a 360, you can make it a 390 easily, and without too much extra cash. DF
