well my luck went to crap today, i was cleaning up my t-stat houseing to install and i dropped it and broke an ear off of it, well my first thought was o well i got more, well yes i do have more but there for later FE's and they have a smaller t-stat, my intake is a 64 so i need the big one and of course i didnt have one, ive looked all over i even checked out DSC and alls they have is the smaller ones, i need to find one fast or weld the ear back on my old one, what do u guys suggest.
I broke mine a few years ago and amazingly Advance (Western Auto/Kragen/etc.) had one over-the-counter (and it wasn't even an ugly chrome one). It's the one I still use.
Ask for one for a 1965 Galaxie 500 with a 390. I think that is what is in my 1971 truck and when I want parts (like the large thermostat or belts) that is what I ask for when requesting parts.
I just switched a 65 intake for a 64 and everything including the thermostat was the same , size and everything, only difference was a Surge tank was on the 64 and just a plain housing on the 65, but the housing and thermostat fit right in the 64, but maybe some 65/64 intakes are diff Heck im sure you know were theres another intake some one has you can "borrow" off of
actually i found one in a friends parts shed today, i actually got a lot of other parts to, he gave me 2 63 and 67 4v intakes, a set of 68 heads, set of 390 rods and some other misc. stuff.
You have some pretty cool friends! Being in the military you would think I would run into all kinds of people with a bunch of FE parts they consider little to no value. I have gotten pretty much everything from the scrapyard or brand new.
I know what you mean, it's especially bad when you find a good deal and have no place to keep it. You know you will have to move in a couple of years too. I got over twenty in right now and am chomping at the bit to buy a place with a garage so I can REALLY get to work.
I am looking for a house right now with a garage. This way I have a place to rip my engine apart when I have to and not have to worry about spectators or the elements.
You are eligible for retirement man! I am looking forward to that day. Getting paid to sit on my butt is great.
theres a lot of people around like that, it helps a lot i live in a smaller town and my dads had a welding repair shop all his life and hes 57, so he knows everyone around here, a lot of the farmers have old trucks and parts so i can get a lot of stuff for nothing, my 75 f150 i got from a farmer for nothing, and it looks like brand new and had a 390 in it, so i guess i get lucky sometimes.
