Ok I made a fast u-turn this morning and my truck went into the dirt on the side of the raod. Not really a problem having a wide turning radius on narrow streets but when the tires hit the dirt on the otherside they broke traction. Normally this would be fun but the truck went sideways and the steering went full manual for a second. I couldn't steer out of it. I had to almost come to a full stop and correct the steering then hit the gas before traffic caught up. Is this normal for power assist? I am trying to justify the $800 plus cost of the power steering kit on ebay.
The kit is all new parts, no welding and siganaw pump thats why I was looking at it. I would rather spend $800 plus getting the parts to put my stroker together. I guess I can wait and see how it drives after the motor is together before I decide. Anyone know of any kits a little cheaper. Like $500 instead of $800?
Ask the guy on ebay what options he has for a guy wanting to save a bit of money. I know you could most likely get a used box and add to his kit and save a few bucks if he is willing to sell you the conversion parts. The guy is real cool, and his kits are second to none. I know the parts seperate to create a kit the same as his is around $1000.00 He does use all new stuff. I put one on about a year ago and have never looked back since. It was the best single thing done to my truck. And I had power assist that I removed. Check out what "76hiboy" had to say. I think he just finished his conversion.
I just replaced the pressure line to the ram a couple days before. I bleed the system just like the book says and the pump dipstick is an 1/8" above full. I have noticed the truck doesn't turn as sharp to the left. I swing alot wider now on left U-turns. Also the truck gets tempermental every once in awhile and becomes hard to steer for a few seconds. Not as bad as now power assist but still not as easy as normal. I will check the turn from lock to lock after work tomorrow. I just spent the last 24 hours working barracks duty so I need some sleep today.
