have any of you guys used a painless kit to rewire your trucks I have noticed the majority of my wireing is in really tough shape on my 66 and have even had a few problems already nothing major but you guys know how much of a headache it can be to find a short I am concidering geting one of there kits and was wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with these kits or have used them on any of your vehicles
The topic has come up in this forum on few occasions. May want to run a search. Suggest go back 2 to 3 months.
Purchased a reproduction harness for my 65 f100, do not intend to install any extra electrical circuits. Found the harnesses a duplicate of the original. The painless harness was discussed, pointing out advantage if one intended to add extra electrical features. Also may be less expensive. Not sure how to word the search, perhaps under 'wiring'?
There is an article in the 'classic truck magazine' using painless wiring kit for another brand of truck. It discusses wiring of entire truck, which may be too much info, and of gauges. The article is in the April 04, issue. Should be able to review by going to their web site 'classictruckswebcom'.
good luck,
dave

hay dave where did you purchas your kit iv not found 1 yet that does under the dash and i reallyt need 1 as some one (owner befor me) riped out 1/2 the wires under the dash. no lights no gages about all i got is the key will start and run the moter.
Unfortunately, have not been able to locate anyone who reproduces the dash harness. Was able to obtain reproduction of the other harnesses. Had to make a few trips to the salvage yard before could find a decent dash harness. Thought another member posted there was a company who was going to make them, seems it was a couple months back. Maybe someone will post an update.
Sorry, should have mentioned in previous post, if unable to locate decent donor harness then painless, or simular kit, may be only way to go. Also may want to consider cost of having auto electrician repairing original dash harness. Many of the Ford parts catalogs have section on painless wiring components. Or run web search. The article in Classic Trucks magazine had references.

I installed a painless harness on my '53 and I believe it was the best $$$ I spent on the truck, Its nice to not worry about old wiring and when you install it youself you always know where you put everything and how it all works. Its great because it has provisions for electric fans and stereos. I definatly thing they are a great investment. I also love my electric VD0 Gauges.
Mr. Mustang mentioned to me about a year ago that they were going to look into a complete harness. I have not followed up with them regarding this because I am not at that stage in my refurb. They did say that a lot of requests for the early sixties harness would help them make up their minds
Purchased the 3 engine harnesses for 65 from mr. mustang about 6mos ago and they did not offer dash harness at the time. Have not check back since.
Can you get the painless circuit for dash, and if so, would it be possible to take the connectors off old harness and install on the painless. Would like to keep the the other original circuits. Would be nice to know if experience problem with the dash harness.
I have a 63, and had a hard time finding a wiring kit for it, so I just replaced the wiring myself (one wire at a time) it took a few days, but once I got done, everything worked perfectly. It wasn't very difficult at all. Probably save myself alot of $$$ in the process.
monte-
i am thinking that replacing the wiring like you did is my best bet as well. I am wondering how you got yourself started (supplies/tools) etc. and if you have any tips for me. I am merely adequate at wiring theories and i wonder if there are better types of connectors and splices than others.
I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REWIRING MY 64 F100 . IT LOOKS PRETTY SIMPLE BUT AFTER 40 YEARS OF SPLICING AND PATCHING , I WISH I HAD A BASIC WIRING DIAGRAM TO FALL BACK ON . ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD MAYBE DOWNLOAD ONE ??? I CONSIDERED ORDERING THE BOOK FOR ABOUT $10.00 BUT BEING THE PATIENT PERSON I AM , BY THE TIME IT GETS HERE I'LL HAVE MOST LIKELY SCREWED IT UP ALREADY .
