Ok, I am planing on trying this this weekend, but one more question, somebody told me that with newer cars you arer only supposto put oil and gas, no injector cleaner, no anything. Is this true???
If you can't find seafoam, go to the parts department at a ford dealer and ask for a bottle of pm-3. It does the same thing and it administered the same way. It's about $5 a bottle.
I used Sea Foam for the first time this weekend. The truck had been very touchy when accelerating from a stop. It would hesitate and even stalled a couple of times. On the advice of several posts on this site I purchased and used a bottle of Chevron Techron. It did nothing. This past weekend I put in a bottle of Sea Foam and topped off the tank. I drove the truck about 150 miles and I now notice a world of difference. The truck is much more responsive and idles smoother. Just my $.02, but it's the first additive that I've used that has resulted in a noticeable difference.
I used a can on my daughters 95. I run half the can through the brake booster vacuum line and put the other half in the tank. After the smoke cleared and a little driving it ran without any hesitation and seemed to idle better. I am planning on putting some in the tank of my expedition. Thanks to all that suggested this.
I have been having really bad pinging on interstate driving, so I just picked up a can of Seafoam at Advance Auto. I plan on putting some in the gas tank. I just changed my oil a month ago (before seeing this), and I was wondering if running it though the engine would be a problem without changing the oil?
I used it last weekend and yes it did improve my idle and throttle response. Of course, I also changed my fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body at the same time so it could be those things.
Here's a Ford service procedure for a 4.0 V-6, seems it should work with Seafoam too.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Use Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up Cleaner PM-3.
Carbon removal: a. Disconnect canister purge line from throttle body.
b. Attach a vacuum line to the canister purge port.
c. At hot engine idle, allow the engine to ingest 1/2 to 2/3 of a can of Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up Cleaner. Use caution not to ingest too quickly due to potential hydro-lock issues.
d Shut engine off and allow it to soak for one hour.
e. Start engine, allow engine to ingest the remainder of the Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up Cleaner.
f. Remove vacuum line and re-install canister purge line.
g. Road test vehicle at 3500 RPM for 2-3 miles.
h. Repeat above procedure two times for a total of three times.
i. Change oil and filter. And Plugs (?)
Review the customers' driving habits. The recommended drive cycle should include daily periods of engine operation above 3,000 RPM, such as a brisk acceleration from a stop position. This will break/burn the carbon off the piston head.
Woo hoo! You guys are great! Wish I lived next to ya. I am trying this. I have a 97 Explorer XLT 4.0 sohc. Tried IAC, plugs, thermostat, yada yada. Its slowly over time getting weak. My Escort accelerates better! Now you know its BAD. Can't hurt to try it, huh? Much thanks!
