My main point was people are pointing at the lack of a DOHC, etc.. That is where I think the bsing is getting out of control. Many manufacturers today are using SOHC for 4 valves etc. along with variable valve timing successfully. I am not doubting that some are expierencing a noise , but the root cause is not that engineering chose to go SOHC.

Ford took me! Engine knock

My Ford dealer told me due to a new service bulletin my warranty was VOID because I used an aftermarket filter! They are saying aftermarket filters breakdown and clog a port or something in the motor causing the knock! I have used FRAM all my life and never had a problem once! So all you ford owners with a 4.6 or 5.4 3v make sure you have a MOTORCRAFT filter and oil in your truck before taking it to a dealer or they will tell you the same......TO BAD! My truck sounds like a diesel even after they replaced my cam phasers. This is the third time I brought it back I only had 24,000 when it first started. Now I have 35,700 and pray it lasts longer. I am currently in contact with Ford and Fram to try to resolve this. It seems clear Ford is trying to hide the obvious....they screwed up and don't want to pay up.

i have a 04 f150 with 88k miles...when i first bought it was making the ticking noise but very light 3yrs ago..but now it sounds like diesel and is driving me nuts...i took it to a mechanic and they told me it could be the rocker arms or the timing chain..i read on here ealier that someone had changed the rocker arms,push rods, and lifter and that had resolved the issue...but now im wondering it that could be the issue also??

also to mention yesterday i raced a chey truck and i noticed when i had passed 120 and still giving it gas my check engine light came on i let off the gas and let it coast back down to 80 and the check engine light went off..my truck still runs great but that damn noise it frustrating as hell

Ford noise

Fram is well aware of Ford's bogus claim. They are testing the filter for me and will send me a letter with the results to take to the dealer. I plan on throwing in some heavier oil and adding a quart of Lucas oil treatment and trading it in on a BETTER designed and built foreign truck. They copy our designs and improve them. We just keep churning out the same garbage....same crap just a different smell.

I have a 2004 FX4 I have 60,000 and just now started hearing the nocking on the passenger side only with the windows rolled up and at about 2000 rpms. I only hear it driving, not at an idle. I do however have a knock at idle, but it is not related to the driving knock. I love my truck, but I have had some issues with it. I am about to take it in since I am still under waranty.

stay ford, you will be disapointed otherwise, I promise you. Especially when it comes to using a truck for what it is suppose to be used for.

ya'll guys be careful mine sounded like that also i had the timing chain done but bought the whole set, when he had it torn apart i seen that the passenger side was really lose we were surprised that it didnt jump, also the dieseil noise went away but due to the chain was tapping so loud against the valve cover he didnt realize the front two lifters are bad which is causing a slight knock on the passenger side, so on the 20th he is going to tear it open again to replace the lifters hopefully this resolves the knock...thank god he is a really good friend of mine...cause anywhere else they would rape you
