engine stalls while driving!!! Please help

i recently have been having problems with my b2 dying while i am driving. the rpms drop dramatically. sometimes i can catch it by tapping the gas pedal so it doesnt die. this is a potentially very dangerous situation for me. is this related to the solenoid, starter etc.? or could it be a fuel pump/filter problem? i changed the fuel filter ( the one under the driver side door) about three weeks ago but it didn't seem to help.

2.9 Ground Problem

I posted a response in the 2.9 forum concerning another problem similar to yours. Please review the info and let me know if it helps.

Good luck!

I would start by checking for codes and testing the fuel pressure.

Ground Issue

That was the frustrating part with this ground issue. I'm usually the first one to recommend checking for codes, but there were no codes and the fuel preasure was dead on. Cold starts are fine, but once you were on the road for 10 minutes or so the problem starts with poor throttle response unless you stab the accelerator with your foot making it imposible to maintain a specific speed. It was a real rush the few morning I drove the Bronco II and we had ice back in January. The computer related components all depend on the two small ground wires that connect to the negative post connector and when that connection is faulty, you get the results listed above.

The ground wires you speak of run from the battery to the solenoid mounted the the firewall? it sounds like an easy fix. i will try it this weekend and hopefully fix it. thanks!

Ground

No. The negative (black) post connector has three wires (87) coming out of the connector. The positive (red) goes to the solenoid. Where they come out of the connector they corrode and the wire inside the insulation breaks until you have a poor connection. Cut the wires off at the battery and put ring terminals on the wires and hook them up to the bolt on the connector.

Hope that helps clear things up...... :

i cahnget the fuel filter and the air filter and the pcv valve and my truck now runs fine

NOTE, make sure to clean out the air filter box with a wet towel or cloth, it helps a lot.
