I have the 87 Bronco II 2.9 L. The truck idles fine, while in park or neutral, if you step on the gas the RPM's run right up with no hesitation. (Both fuel pumps and filter are new) but randomly when you are driving it sputters like it is not getting gas. If you pump the gas pedal it will keep sputtering but never actual dies. Speeds continue to increase but constant hesitation. Park it and there is a 50/50 chance it will run fine next time or do the same. The last 4 times out the first 3 times ran like a charm, then the 4th time starting sputtering again. Any ideas?
I'd definitely start with trying to pull the codes.
I'd also suggest to try posting in the Ranger forum. The BIIs and first gen Rangers are essentially the same, and the Ranger forum gets much more traffic.
