I am having trouble with removing the door lock actuator on a 2002 F150 Super Crew. It has the rod linkage and of course no rivet. I can get all of the window guide loose but can't rotate the actuator around to unhook the linkage where it meets up at the latch area. Can anyone help??????
It is a front door or rear door? Have you disconnected the rods from the handle and lock cylinder? Basically, if you dont have the newer type replacement actuator it is best to just remove the whole latch. If you are replacing the actuator entirely with a new style actuator you can just break off the rod from the old actuator and remove the rod with the latch in place. Then you separate the rod from the new actuator by carefully pushing the black plastic rod retainer from the white actuator rod, loop the rod onto the latch, and then carefully reattach the rod black rod retainer and actuator assembly by snapping them together again. If you dont want to risk breakin the actuator then it is best to remove the whole latch.
Per the service manual, it recommends removal of the entire latch assembly.
Thanks, I will try this over Thanksgiving break. It is the drivers door and front passenger door. Yes I disconnected the rod from the lock cylinder but not the handle. I didn't want to go that far if it wasn't needed. But, I will see in a couple of days.
Excellent instructions. This was not a hard job at all. I saved myself a couple of hundred dollars. The hardest part was getting the correct actuator motor. The trick to removing the motor was for drivers door lift to the 2 O'clock position and it will unclip and for the front passenger door lift to the 10 O'clock position and it will unclip.
All of the books at O'Riley's and NAPA had the wrong part for my truck listed. Of all places Autozone had the correct parts. For a 2002 SuperCrew you have to ensure it is the one with the actuator rod down the center and not the side lever. Price at Ford was $115 each. Price at AutoZone $80 for the drivers door and $26 for the front passenger. That is a heck of a savings if you consider what Ford would charge to install it.
