No A/C

A/C stopped blowing cold air, heat and blower works. Only had truck for about 2 months, worked when I bought it. Checked fuses, but did not change or check bigger relay in engine compartment fuse box. Any way to check relay before I buy one and find out thats not the problem ? Or am I going for the leak check kit ? I'm more used to working on residential HVAC Systems, so there might be some safety cut offs on here, like a low pressure cut off switch ???????? Any help appreciated, 2003 F150 with 5.4. Thanks !

Your hot/cold switch could be bad. (That blue to the red thing you turn on the dash to get cold or hot or the AC switch part as well)
See if your clutch is kicking in by getting someone to turn it on while you look down at the compressor on the left-hand side facing the engine on the bottom of the engine and see if it kicks in.
Make sure the AC connector is plugged in all the way. Take a meter and check the volts to the connector when the switch is placed in AC. (It sucks to do this)
Do you know how to jump-start the AC?
(Look it up, I would think youtube will or maybe can show you how to do this)

Look at your relays and you will see that it has the same number as a few others have. Just take one of them out and check and see that way with a swap.

Seller may have charged it just before selling due to a small leak.

No different than house system..

STEP ONE--- is the compressor running or not...

STEP TWO -- if its not running, is the pressure in the system high enough to close all switches to kick the pump on .. If not, add gas... If yes , look for loss of power to run compressor.

If not running, also check the clutch gap. Over time, the clutch wears and the gap gets too large resulting in no or intermittent engagement.

See HVAC FAQs, link is in my signature.

Good point. I drove a ‘94 Ranger around for a year and a half with a dead AC. That was the culprit. Not “It’ll cost you $500 to replace blahblahblah”, but $90 and an hour for labor and R134 top off.

When I push button for Max A/C, clutch engages, for about 3 to 5 seconds, makes a weird noise, then disengages, then after about 3 seconds, starts all over again, engage, disengage...... Any thoughts ? Thank you !

You dont have enough gas in the system.. Pump kicks in, sucks the inlet pressure down to 20 psi or so and kicks out the Low Pressure Switch... normally the pump will run for 30 seconds or so, then kick off for 5-10 seconds, etc.. If you had a gauge, you could see this........ a can of gas with a gauge on the hose will show you.

Thank you, that's what I was hoping it wouldn't be. I'll charge it once, see how long I have A/C, next go round is the dye and leak check. Thanks again !
