Talked to ford service manager about the hood insulation today. I guess he called corporate and they stopped adding them after 12/03 build date, so i'm out of luck unless I want to purchase one myself. Seems how mine is a 1/26/04 build. Just thought I would pass along the information.

River Runner, you may want to attempt this. On page 46, 47, or 48 of the Diesel Supplement there is a statement about the removal of the hood blanket (sounds dampening) components being illegal by federal law, or something to this effect. If you can find this statement, show it to the dealer stating you are concerned about the legality, you may just get a hood blanket for free.
And for those considering purchasing a truck, simply make it a "condition of sale" issue, while at the same time re-enforcing your position with deacjrts suggestion.
As to his other comment:

It's a requirement -- have them honor that requirement
Just A Thought...............on...............My Perceptions................
When I bought my 04 CrewCab 4x4 PSD 3 weeks ago in Auburn, CA I never even popped the hood to check if it had the under hood blanket.
Of course after I got home I found out that there wasn't one there.
I called and spoke with the Service Manager and told him I knew there were other 04's out there with them. He put me on hold and ran out into the lot to check another 04. The one he checked had it, so he told me Ford must have made a mistake and didn't put one in. He ordered it and they will install it when I take it in for my first service.
I'll definately check my owners manual regarding the blanket.
I would like to get one for my truck, seems how I drive to havasu with my boat when it's 120 out. I'm afraid with the turbo on top the engine that it could really cook the paint. I've checked on some pricing it appears there about $70.00. So on top of the original $45,000 I guess what's another 70.00. I had hoped, seems how Galpin Ford is the largest ford dealer in the country that they would take care of it, but oh well.

Yes, Job 2 deleted the hood blanket and glove box light (including wiring). There have been many discussions of this, mostly in the new truck forum. My truck was built 2/6/04, and is missing both. I haven't ordered the blanket, but I will soon.
I just traded my F250XLT '03 with a build date of 12/18/02 for a F350 Lariat with a build date of 01/12/04. From reading previous posts I realized that I had to look for the hood insulator. Sure enough it did not have one, they thought it should and made it part of the sale at the dealership. I bought the demo that the fleet service manager was using and had put 600 miles on already with no problem. Figured that was the thing to do to be safe. Now I am hoping I have the Ford I thought I was buying before.

Is this the engine build dates or truck build dates.
Engine on white tag.... either valve cover
Fm Globesken
made it part of the sale at the dealership
Actually, when considering one of their "used", you're in the driver's seat regards adding anything as a "condition of sale". From including a replacement truck, should the truck have to be brought back for warranty work, to an extension of the warranty period. It's allnegociable with their used ones sitting on their lots. If the dealer really wants to move that truck, the dealership will cover the added part of the package.
