I tried it and it did not work. The foam was too heavy (too thick for clips) and the tape would not adhere to the hood. I am trying to find the OEM hood blanket but cannot find anywhere to order it from.

Then we are in the same boat.
My local dealer wants $120 for the foam and clips.
Since i need a few other things like filters and the Excursion under dash panels for my F-250 i would like to find a vendor that has it all.
I love my truck but the tight-wads at Ford are irking me to say the least.
Well I pushed the dealer and they would not include the hood blanket even when I provided the documentation in the diesel supplement. Their answer at first was none of the other 04s on the lot had the insulation, I mentioned the diesel supplement again and they went back to research and said it was deleted and they would not include one. I asked how much for me to purchase, $118 for blanket, $1.17 for a bag of 4 retainer clips. I laughed and walked out, called another dealership parts department and they offered it for $81, bought 3 bags of clips for $1.17 (each bag has 4 clips and I needed 9). I tried to purchase at www.fordpartsonline.com, as they were much cheaper, but shipping was going to be way too much for the ackward shaped box. Installation was a 5 minute job, had to remove the existing rubber seal toward the front of the hood. Hood blanket used the holes for rubber seal, then the rubber seal went back on over the insulation, used the existing retainers to secure it, then pushed in the other 9 retainer clips, DONE. Ford should of included this with the purchase of the truck.

I agree. When you spend $45K on a product the last thing I want is for them to skimp. They should at least offer it as an option. I bet it was some stupid Ford executive who needed a promotion and devised this scheme to save some money to look good. Some one should go to Ford HQ and pull his head from his 4th point of contact.

What are under dash panels?
I'm not totally sure but in other threads people mentioned that putting under dash panels from Excursion did in fact quite down road and engine noise in the cab.
I'm going to dealer tomorrow for a warranty job to fix my jerky tranny when coming out of park. Tech says Ford hotline has a solenoid replacement .
I will look at Excusions on the lot and quiz the parts guy to look them up.
I will post back what i find.
PS: on a diesel i think it would mean the most to include the hood liner and dash panels and just charge us the extra $$$ or whatever from the factory.
I would love to actually know how much Ford saves by deleting the liner.
Probably cost them under $10 in quantity.
That $10 in savings is causing a lot more in customer DIS-satisfaction.
sweet the self lining is nice. I sent an email to my dealer and they said they would check prices for me. If they try to rip me off I will get that self adhesive stuff. That was the problem with the stuff I tried to use from JC Whitney. It was so heavy and I could only pin it down and tape around the edges so it was always falling down. It was like thin sheet of reflective aluminum (with a string mesh in the layer to make it stronger), then 1/2" of foam, then 3/8" heavy duty rubber pad, then 1/8" foam.
Anyone know of any places that will install their other sound stuff in the cab? If I took apart my cab like they show on the web site I may not be able to get everything back in.

Floor, roof, firewall, rear wall and doors with dynamat or equivalent.
Hood with dynamat high heat liner under the Ford liner which i just put in. .
I had the dealer parts guy look up the Excursion and sure enough, it has a insulation type plate deep in the dash between the firewall and cab.
Its the piece i referred to in the earlier post.
It looks like i'll have to remove the dash and a bunch a work to put it in but it does exist.
Not sure of price b\c he got swamped as i was buying the liner so i just split.
It'll never be quite like a Lexus but seeing a how the trucks lack sound damp material i had to do what i could.
check that b-quiet site out. They had the entire inside of the 350 cab lined with the stuff. Guy said it blocked all noise. I sent an email and they said usually people DIY the stuff or take the stuff to a car upolstery or audio place for them to install it. I think I may have an audio shop install it for me later.
they have all different thicknesses. They installed a version in a F350. They have pictures of it at their site. They completely gutted the truck and put it on every surface (floor, doors, roof, back, and front).

Thanks, i'll check it out further
EDIT: okay i looked at the 350 install.
That is what i did with dynamat extreme and boy is the brown-bead alot cheaper.
It's a real pain in the a$$ to intsall(tedious) so i think you're installer is going to charge you serious $$$ to put it in. S-E-R-I-O-U-S $$$
Took me several hours and i kept laughing how much a shop might charge.
I think you should think about putting it in yourself.
I think i'll try the brown bead on my hood under the liner as its rated for high heat.
