Interesting topic, I just went and checked my 4.6L '04 F150 Heritage STX, built 03/04 and it doesn't have one, my 4.6L '01 F150 Sport had it??? My new '04 is much quieter than my '01, but I also read in here, that it will deflect heat, I guess I should talk to my dealer tomorrow and see what is what. Thanks for the great info!!
Well I took a trip to KC in the rain. The engine hood got so hot that the water would evaporate soon after it hit. The entire car was wet except the big spot on the hood above the engine.
I ordered the 1" thick reflective mylar foam and tape to insulate my hood. It looked better than the Ford OEM blanket and cheaper.
I put the blanket on mine....dealer gave it to me. There were two weather strips...one for the front of the blanket(long one and was already on the hood...got 2 now) and a shorter one. I can't figure out where the shortie goes...there are two half-moon cuts on it which line uo with the front edge of the hood but the clips do not...any ideas?
My 04 250 has the seals but no blanket. The salesman at the dealer is still trying to find out from some rep whether or not its supposed to have the blanket. He looked at 5 250's on his lot and 4 of them had them. A lariat was the only one that didn't. Funny, mine is a lariat too.
I bought my f250 6.0 Lariat one month ago. It does not have the hood insulation. I called the dealer and was told only the Harley model of the truck came with it now. I expressed my dissapointment that I bought a 45,000 truck in somewhat of a deluxe package (leather, etc.) and it did not have this basic item with it. He understood but there was nothing he could do. I expressed my concerns about heat eventually damaging the paint. He tried to reassure me that this would not be a problem. I asked if I could add it and requested some type of discount but none was offered- I could buy the parts from the parts department.
For the cost I think I am going to look into an after market product such as a previous post indicated. I suspect I can buy a much better quality product for a lot less.
I've got a truck from August of 03, it still has the hood blanket, but it is by far the loudest diesel I've heard. Has anyone else noticed the difference in noise of some of these trucks?
01/04 build 250/6.0 SCLWB Harley and it didn't come with hood insulation. In fact when I was ordering there was chat on the Harley site and buyers were working with the inside guys and some were able to coordinate having black clear coat put on the underside of the hoods so I think the insulation was deleted off all the trucks at the same time without exception to model. It'll probably change and be back in '05.
