Cause problems with piston rings or something?
My dad was talking to some guys that race cars
and they said that I should add an intake, carb,
exhaust, and stuff but not put headers on because
of the problems that they cause.
This is the first I've ever heard. Would I and
my 390 be okay with a set of Stan's Tri-Y
headers?
The only yime I have ever heard of something like that..Is if you had a SUPER bad leak at the hedders were they bolt up at the flange.. If cold air would get into the heads..
But if you have a leak that bad you shouldnt be driving the Vehicle anyway!!
I have run Hedders on probably 100 cars and trucks I have owned over the last 40 years.. And have not had any major trouble!!
A few small leaks here and there!! But for the most part trouble free!! Go for it!! Good luck with your tri-ys....
Even tho I have never used tri-ys..I have friends that do! and like em??
The odds of headers causing you any of those problems is probably worse than the odds that you'll win the lotto tomorrow. Headers are a great way to increase power, gas milage, and give you a better exhaust sound.
The ONLY bad things that headers can do is leak and rust. They can, however, be difficult to install. Everything else they provide is a plus. Ask these race guys if they have headers on their race cars, I'll bet they do.
Also, the advice to spend money on intake and carb without putting on headers is questionable at best. An engine is nothing but an air pump. If you want more power, you put more air through it. If you want to draw more air in, you add bigger carb, intake, heads. But it doesn't do any good without bigger exhaust to let the air back out.
Thank you guys...Scouder the guys said that
putting headers on a race cars just not on
street machines..not too sure why they said
that. Sounded like BS to me.
Stan's Headers are excellent!! They will build them just for your application and look awsome. Very similar to FPA's, but a little cheaper. Do a search for Stan's Headers to see their home page.

\They are going to be my headers when I get everything to rebuild my motor.
