Brought my 2001 F250 XL Superduty Ext Cab home last night. I'm slowly going through everything and I just noticed that the spare tire is mounted on an eight lug rim while the rims on the truck are actually seven lugs. Obviously this is not going to work. On the truck are the stock base Ford steel wheels with the plastic wheel cover but they are 7 lug. Called the place I bought it from and they indicated that they had never seen a 2001 F250 with seven lug rims and all the 2001 250's on their lot were eight lug. When I first looked at the truck, it had no spare and they put one on it before I picked it up. Obviously they didn't check to see if it would in fact work. They also said they did not have a seven lug spare to swap it out with. I'm a little po'ed and confused. I did a little research and I've seen it said that only the 98 F250's came with seven lug rims. Where can I get the right rim for my spare? Why do I have 7 lug rims on my 2001 F250? I can't be the only one,can I?
Badford, it's a 2001 F250 XL Superduty Ext Cab, V10, Long Bed, 5-Speed, 3.73. I think Bordaine pretty much nailed it. It has the plastic hubcaps where the lug nuts actually hold the hubcap on so there is no center cap to pop off and there are definitely only seven lugs - I can see them all. I will eventually replace everything with some nice wheels and maybe some REVO's, but right now I need a spare thats going to work when I need it.
I can only assume these are the hub caps you have?
If so, the lug nuts you see on the caps are only for decoration, and do nothing to hold the hub cap to the wheel. If you take the time to pop one of the caps off, you will see there are actually 8 lug nuts under there.
mcope, if you in fact have 7 lugs, you may want no want to drive it, and save it as a "1 of" because I have never ever seen nor heard of a Super Duty from 99 up having 7 lugs.
EV2DEMON you are correct. I popped one off this morning and sure enough there are eight lugs underneath. I can't believe how real the lugs on the hubcap look. Yeah, I feel like an idiot now for sure, but at least I dont have to worry about having the right spare. Been an F150 guy since way back, but this is my first F250 so I have a lot to learn. I am really enjoying that V10 though. Thanks for all the help.
