Can anyone tell me what the size of the studs and lug nuts are on a 3/4 ton 8 stud wheel from the 90's is . Here is the issue. I have a 1976 F250 with 8 lug rims size 16. I am having the devils job of finding a replacement rim for my truck. My ideal is to get a size 16, 8 stud rim from a 90's truck ( said to be the same bolt pattern BUT the studs and lug nuts are bigger) and machine a stainless steel set of lug nuts custom to fit my studs and to have the outside diameter to fit the stud holes on the rim. Does this make sense to any one?
You have 1/2-20 right now and the later ones are the larger 9/16-18. Since those 9/16" use something like a 1 1/16 socket or something like that you need a 1/2-20 with a bigger outside dia. I used 1990 wheels on my one truck and did find nuts online that do work. I looked but can't seem to figure out where bought them. They are 1/2-20 but have a 1" hex. I know it's was like $24 or so for 16.
I was thinking of getting a stainless steel hex stock and taking it to work and cutting it down and chamfering it to the 60 degree angle needed to fit in the stud hole and then threading it at a half inch x 20 tpi, but if I can find them on line some where it would save me a lot of work.
