The Y pipe encompasses everything from where the stock manifolds end to where the muffler mates with that pipe. Does youre catback mount to that pipe with a flange, or is it a slip fit?
You dont have to. It was merely pointed out that you would have to use a hacksaw or something similar to remove youre stock muffler. You would then use exhaust clamps to clamp it in place (one end being connected to the Y pipe).
That all depends on which muffler you choose. They make them in many different pipe widths. Even if they did not offer one that fit youre stock pipe exactly, you could have a small adapter made at any exhaust shop or gas station for a few dollars.
You guys go about it the wrong way. Straight pipes off the headers sound the best. Yes my state has emission testing but it's every two years, so the amount of time it takes to put the coverter back on is worth it to me to have it run and sound good inbetween tests.
There are details for each muffler. I thought the 70 series I ran on my old 76 F250 (no cats, headers, dual 3" pipes) was pretty deep. I would buy them again.
