I've got a 1994 f150 with the I6, 114k miles. It idles fine, but when I step on the gas the slightest bit, the engine hesitates, if I leave my foot on the gas that little bit, the engine will actually die. But if I push the gas further it hesitates to start, then revs up just fine and seems to run fine when it's running fast. I think sometimes while I'm crusing down the road it acts like it hiccups a little. But in any gear just above an idle, the hesitant engine turns into a disaster and the truck bucks more than enough to be embarressing and really irritating. I relpace the fuel filter today, but that didn't help... any other suggestions? I'm at a loss.
Sounds like what I went thru with my 93. replaced darn near everything except the converter and the EGR valve before I got the correct thing fixed.
Check your codes and see if you get 53 and or 63. You get either or both then replace the Throttle Position Sensor.
It's the sensor to the right of the Throttle Valve body inline with the valve shaft.
Make sure you gt the right one. Pull the Number right off the old TPS and cross reference to the new one. Don't let the Moron behind the counter tell ya "AW SHUCKS...They all do the same thing, this one'll be awright". INSIST on the correct part.
When you say "check your codes" do you mean take it to a dealer and have them run the diagnostics on it? Forgive me, it's been a while since I've worked on this engine (last one was on an '84 probably 8 years ago)
