4.6 Skipping

4.6 Skipping
First time posting . . . this may be a no brainer . . . Hopefully!
After running my 2000 F150 4.6 (with 24K miles) all day Saturday . . . the engine began to skip / hesitation slightly while under a load. As it has been rather cold here lately (single digits and teens), I thought that there may be some moisture in the fuel . . . so I filled the tank and headed home. That is when the skip became very pronounced, with the "Service engine soon" light blinking. I stopped and added 2 bottles of dry gas and idled for a few minutes . . . and the situation inproved quit a bit, but the engine continued to run a little ruff off idle and the Service engine soon light stayed on. This morning the engine "seems" to be running smoothly with no hesitation off idle . . . but the "Service Engine" Light remains lit.
With the low miles I'm hoping that it was as simple as a little moisture . . . If it was . . . would the Service light go out on its own or does it need to be reset? And is there a way to check for a code (and translation) without buying equipment to do so.
Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
CJ

Hi and welcome to the forum
It will eventially go out after enough drive cycles are completed, and no fault is detected.
I would drive it by your local AutoZone and have them scan it. They will do it for free and then post the code here and we can tell you what was going on. They can also reset the light for you.
