Question Rain gutter

Hey all,
I saw that my rain gutters on top of the doors were cracked and that rainbow looking residue was streaking down the side a little. So I taped off the section and sprayed it with the rust away stuff you can buy at Checker (. Well, I didn't fill the cracks so yes, they are still there. Am I screwed or can I get some silicone and fill in and not worry about it anymore??

Thanks

Ben

Ford used to offer a repair kit for this problem, but they are VERY hard to find now. Silicone is one solution. You might want to seach for 'roof crack' or something similar in this forum. I know its been discussed before.

Ya, I looked that up, but they were talking about the cab having holes in it or something. I was just wondering if I was in big trouble or if I was able to save it.

Thanks

The Ford repair kit wasn't worth all it was cracked up to be. The best way to fix the cracks is to have them welded, but silicone will seal them up for awhile and keep most of the water from running into the cab and soaking the carpet.

I've got the cracks there, too. On the passenger side, to the back of the gutter. This would be a good indication of why the carpet behind the passenger seat is sometimes wet, eh???

What would be wrong with shaving them off and doing away with them all together that way u wont have to worry about it any more. After shaving fill it in with lead not bondo and it should last forever. I havent done this but its just my .02

Mine actually hasn't started leaking into the cab yet. So hopefully I can save it. The led sounds like a good idea though!

i used a 2-part epoxy to fill mine. i had water intrusion on both sides, and that stuff sealed it up nicely. i know it'll be hell to get out later on when i get the whole truck re-finished with all the bodywork and what-not, but for now, it was a good repair. a little touch-up paint and she's dry inside.
