I have an 88 bronco 302, When i am driving down the road I have a vibration from about 30mph on up, when i let off the gas and coast no vibration. It idles fine and no vibration when sitting still reving up to 3 grand. It feels like under my seat. Also a clunking.grinding when go into reverse. Maybe a bad u-joint? I need help. I also noticed today that I heard a grinding from behind when turning corners at slow speeds. This all starting happening about 10 days ago.
Sounds like you need to check your universal joints on your driveshaft. Something is causing an imbalance. Could even be a big gob of mud on the shaft.
Well, I have had u-joints go bad quickly like this before. Check them to see if the caps a broken or loose and even check them for grease fittings. If they have grease fittings try giving them a squeeze of grease. If this does not work replace them. Now after I have done mine...I have some advice for you. At the knuckle (at the rear output shaft of the transfer case) when taking it apart you must be careful not to lose the bearings inside the knuckle. It is very difficult putting it back together. It took me 2 hours just to get the u-joints in and the knuckle back together. Take your time and breath easy. If this does not solve the vibration it may possibly be a tooth gone in the rear or the outer bearings are bad in the rear that seal the axle. (this is unlikely though) So more than likely it is your u-joints. Once you do 1 do em all cause it is a b***h when you do the knuckle. Good luck
Check the shaft to see if one of the weights had rusted off...this could throw the whole shaft off balance and require balancing by a professional or a new shaft.
