Unwired and set the neutral safety Sw., per Haynes manual, found frayed wires from harness side of distributor wireing and repaired, took dash apart, can't find any burned wires yet anyway, but, from "+" red side of coil to disconnected red wire that would plug into the controle module reads open. Then I checked red wire at connector to ground, open, but, from red wire that goes to the coil to ground I'm getting nearly a dead short, 0.010 ohms.
Truck still starts in the "Run" position. I didn't get around to pulling the Ign. Sw. and trying it manually. Knowing my luck, I've been working for nearly a week to find that I have a bad Ign. Sw. Purchased at Autozone, were else. Thing is, original plus two from the Zone do the same thing.
When you remove the connector from the neutral safety switch does it still crank? Do you have the wiring diagram for "charge/power distribution" I think you need to concentrate on any wire that has voltage on it when the key is in the run position. The wire to the S terminal is crossed with one of those wires. Could be in the steering column or under the dash or under the hood. Thats why it would be good to know if it still cranks with the neutral safety switch connector removed. Good luck with the miserable thing.
