I just purchased a used 2000 Excursion with a V10 & 4.30 ls rear end. It has 72000 miles and I have no maintenance records. What should my first priorities be as far as getting things checked out. This is the first used vehicle that I have purchased and I am not mechanically inclined. I bought the vehicle pretty cheap and am not apposed to investing some money into it but not sure where to start? The oil was changed with 10w30 a week ago. Thanks for any hep.
Just drive it. Put about 5k more miles on the clock. If anything develops, fix that problem first.
Besides after 5k you will be very happy or an unhappy camper.
You could have all fluids changed; front diff, tranny & filter, transfer case, rear diff and the anti-freeze.
I just bought a 2002 f-250 v-10 with 67000 and I made it part of the deal but I had the Ford dealer flush the Tranny, change the plugs, front and rear dif. and do an over all check. I am friends with a Ford mec. and he said the 100,000 mile plug thing is not advised by him he would recomend 60 to 70k change and from now on I would run 5-20 motorcraft
Congrats on the new truck
take care

I had a transmission shop look at it and do a diagnostic test. They said everything was fine and they did a flush job. I asked if they thought they should drop the pan, which was more money, and they did not reccomend it at that mileage. I think I have a small exhaust leak, it sounds like it anyway. I am getting the brakes checked and two new Steeltex A/T for the rear, so I will have that shop check for the exhaust leak. I guess this is all I will do for now and see how she does towing the Sea Ray this summer. If I need new brake pads, any suggestions. Almost all miles will be towing 10,000lbs.
