ok, first of all I have an 88 5.0 efi.
I bought an 88 5.0 out of a station wagon. I took the car intake off and put the one on from my bronco, swapped all other nesasary goodies, put new valve seals in, and re torqued the rockers according to the specs. I cant get the friggin thing to run right at all. it is running REALY ritch, and wont idle, it spitts and spuders rally bad.
I do not have the knock sensor installed on the motor as there isn't a spot for it, also running the distributor from the car.
i turn wrenches at a salvage yard. What to do is , if your motor ran good just threw a rod or something like that, swap EVERYTHING, that way you know that it was working, many times i have left something like a temp sensor in, only to find out later that it didnt work. I can say for 100%, with out checking the comp at work, but believe there were some differances in dizzy. I also have gotten into the habit of swapping injector rail as well. We had a lot of probs with stuck injectors from motors that had sat around awhile. The 5.0 car to truck swap is one of the more complicated, as you usually end up stripping the new motor and useing just the long block.
It's the cam , ya have a speed density EFI system which is programmed to run with that cam spec , the car cam is not the same lift or duration so the computer is thinking it is the right math , but it is not , ya have to use your old cam or buy one with numbers as close as possible ..... that brings up the roller cam thing , if ya want a roller cam ya can buy one with the right numbers but ya have to switch the gear on the dist. and then ya can use your old dist. or ya can swith to the old flat tappet lifters and push rods , no real big deal either way it will work
ok, I decided the hell with the EFI and am going to convert it to a carb. to do this what ignition set up do I need ( distributor, modual, ect.) and where exactly do I need to splice these items into the existing harness, I want to do this as quickly and easily as possible
in my 84 i have a rollar cammmed engine from a car. It runs excellant. I was not there when they did the swap, but it looks like they used the truck dizzy intake carb. Like i said it runs great.
No special changes were made no cams swapped. I just finished a similiar swap into a pickup, and did not swap cams, just injector rail, plenum, dizzy, just about everything from the heads up. They were both fuel inj, but used a little differant parts, it also runns good now.
Ok going from EFI to carb is easy, ya can use the old Duraspark II box from a 78 -79 or ya can get an MSD box all ya really need is key on and off power the either one as far as the Dist. Auto zone or what ever will sell ya a new 78-79 Dist for around 60$ just hook it up and turn the key , i have done it my self and have never had any proublems
86 Bronco stock EFI 302 to a 95 351w carter 625 cfm carb edelbrock intake ,auto zone Dist. had a Dura spark box and upgraded to a MSD off road box
