Do you use dino or synthetic? Did you notice this much oil loss at the last oil change? Considering it has almost 200,000 miles on it, it could be burning a lot of oil if the rings are shot, or maybe you have an oil leak somewhere. Check valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, seals, ect... to see if you can see any external oil seepage. If it's warm where you live, consider a thicker weight oil than what you are using (I'm guessing your using 5W30 or 10W30). Consider a 15W40 diesel/gas rated oil, or a good 20W50 oil if it is nice and toasty where you are.
Well, since it says british columbia canada, I'm gonna say it's probably cold and to use a diesel rated dino 10w30, or Rotella T 5w40 synthetic. Its not really synthetic, its a group 3 dino marketed as synthetic. Anyway, it has the diesel ratings for the more substantial additive package, is dino to help control usage, and is 5w so you can get it started on those cold mornings.
it doesnt seem to use much oil,i had the oil changed, last month and just checked it today, and noticed it was down.added some iol,and where i live,it isnt cold.i dont live up north,in the artic,im in central bc.
I used to drive a 01 chevy camaro 5.7litre, I was concerned that it was using too much oil (about 2qts/3000miles). The car only had 56000 on it. I was told that this figure was below the standards, they said about 1qt/1000 miles for a pushrod motor.
This car was used hard, it was a police pursuit car. It has a published governed top speed of 159 mph and i can certify that.
