95 f-150 4x4 hub spindle nut socket help
I'm having problems removing the spindle nut on my 1995 F-150 4x4 5.8L with manual hubs. All the sockets I have access to are too small. Even though my truck is a 1/2 ton, it doesn't use the 4 post socket tool. I have six slots (need a six post socket tool). I tried one for a 3/4 Ford but it was also too small. I went to NAPA and they didn't show anything in their catalog.
The socket nut is approximately 2 7/8 o.d. and 2 11/16 i.d (inside the nut slots). The hubs are manual and the covers have three torx screws that hold it on. Underneath there are 6 locations that the cover can bolt to.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks

There is a special hub locknut wrench that is used to remove the inner and outer locknut. Ford's number is "Hub lugnut Wrench T83T-1197-B".
The 3 screws on the manual hub indicate that the vehicle was built after April '95. They used 6 screw manual hubs before that date.

When I do a search on T83T-1197-B, it seems to cross-reference to OTC7157 (other companies sell that same thing).

That tool appears to be what I tried first. Too small and only has 4 prongs. I need 6 Prongs. The 6 prong tool I tried was also too small. I'm beginning to wonder if I don't have some type of aftermarket hubs.

Were you ever able to find a socket? I am having the same problem. Thanks

the other day when I was looking at manual locking hubs on Amazon and when it showed what is commonly bought with them it shows the spindle nut socket that you need.
