My valve cover was leaking quite badly, so I tackled that this weekend. Now, I'm burning oil like crazy. I can't tell where it's leaking from, but it's getting on the exhaust and creating a huge cloud wherever I go. The whole pass. side of the engine is soaked w/ oil, and I'm sure the valve cover isn't leaking again. I pulled the intake off after I had done the job to check, and everything is tight. What else could be on that side of the engine that would leak oil that badly? Thanks.
The only thing that i know of on the passenger side would be the valve cover gasket. Are you sure the gasket didnt move when you put it in also if its to tight it will push the gasket out
I know, I' just don't want to admit it or do it one more time. I'm gonna check to make sure the cover ain't warped, but it wasn't the last time I had it off. I'm just gonna rtv the heck out of it and call it good.

The RTV Silicone is a NO NO!!!
It will make the gasket SLIDE AROUND when you torque the valve cover(To manufacturers specs. of course!!)
Clean the oil off really good and install gasket only..
Are you getting the FORD Rubber gasket?? Or are you useing a CORK one?? It is worth the extra $$ or two it will cost you!!
RTV is fine as long as you use it correctly. Just gotta let it set up before torqueing. And we use the cork gaskets at work (ford dealership) on older vehicles when we have to go to napa for things. Never had a problem with them yet. I cut the gasket in half installing it. Fighting the cover on under the fuel rails pinched it against the head. Now I gotta wait till tommorrow to get a new one (again)....blast!
Originally posted by redv92c I knew an old mech he would use weather strip adhesive
glue the gasket to cover let it set up then put it on
I use thread through the bolt holes to hold the gasket in place
The weatherstrip adhesive is good too, Its just a PITA when you need to remove it.
I personally do not like RTV Silicone with a gasket. I have used it INSTEAD of a gasket before
Sometimes the valve cover itself gets bent around the bolt holes...
Make sure the area around the bolt holes has not been pulled down below the gasket mating surface..
This is a common problem on a valve cover that has been over torqued
