New to site. I'm having a problem trying to locate what I assume is an oil leak. It is on the driver side and the whole engine compartment is wet on the side up on firewall beneath the master cylinder. And the whole underneath is wet also axles and leaf spring and can't find where it's coming from. I have sprayed it down with degreaser to try to help pin point the leak still no luck. Truck has 236k on it also new hpop and turbo pedestal and checked the valley and its dry. Any suggestions? Right now I'm at a loss. I'm leaning towards oil cooler but would a leaking oil cooler cause whole side of engine compartment to be covered?
Thanks. That's why I'm confused right now Bc not being able to find the leak and the way the engine compartment is looking, looks like a high pressure hose spraying everywhere. The whole under carriage is wet also.
Check your oil level- that much on the bottom should show on the dipstick.
If not, coolant? Check your power steering fluid. Something should show up low...
Just recently purchased this truck a couple months ago. Trying to get everything fixed so I dno how long it's been leaking and how much has accumulated there overtime. It's been cold here in Ohio so haven't had time to look at it but last couple days been nice just trying to figure the problem out while it's nice. Have no power running to garage yet so have to work outside while garage is being finished.
Could you put some UV dye/tracer in the oil? This would help you pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from a lot easier with all the oil and everything that is there now. Thus would help you know for sure that this is a "live" leak and not just old stuff that remains or just being blown from somewhere else under there.
Likely culprit is the oil cooler. I've known cases where the wind currents under the hood actually caused an oil cooler leak to show itself on the passenger side of the engine bay. It just depends on exactly where the leak is on the cooler o-rings or gaskets. Might want to also torque down your valve cover bolts as well.
