Just means something flaked apart before you replaced the pump in the first place, probably the first pump.

You guys could try changing/flushing your power steering fluid. It's not hard, just a little messy. I did it by first taking off the belt, then the return line at the back of the p/s pump. Be ready cause fluid will come out of the pump where you pulled the line off. Now hook a hose to the return line and into something to catch the old fluid. Turn the pulley by hand to flush the system out. Make sure you keep enough fluid in the reservoir, and I turned the wheels to different positions while flushing (if you jack the front end up it's a lot easier on everything). Run enough through so clean fluid comes out, then put everything back together. I used a power steering filter from Napa on the return line. Make sure the fluid level is correct, then start the truck and check for leaks.
BTW, my trucks call for Type F ATF. I've heard people say using "power steering fluid" made theirs noisier. I don't know if that's true or not, but I'm sticking with the recommended fluid.

When I bought my used '92 F150, the power steering pump was screaming. I guess I got lucky, cause I replaced it with a reman Carquest and it has been pretty quiet for over a year. Like some others, I did flush the whole system by disconnecting the return line off the gear and into a catch basin. With keeping the resevoir full of clean fluid, I ran the pump and turned the wheels back and forth to flush the steering gear until I got clean fluid out of the return line. I got quite a bit of nasty fluid and crap out of the gear before it ran clean. Believe this has helped keep my new power steering pump quiet. Charles
