I've got a 1970 ford f250 ranger camper special. It's got the 390, with an auto transmission (not sure what type of tranny) . Had it parked all summer, checked all the fluids (tranny tends to lose a little over time, not much, about half a quart every few months) Column shifter; every gear all of the sudden is drive (P, N, R, etc) all try to push it forward.
So here's my dilema, is it the transmission, or the shifter? any suggestions? thanks! You guys are the best in honest advice!

just a note; tranny didn't catch or grind, and would work and shift smoothly while in drive, that's why i'm a little confused!
I have a feeling it may be the linkage, the points are rusted, and the body has settled... it's had the same old heavy camper on the back since the truck was new I think, hehe, ancient. I'm hoping it's not the transmission, the linkage would be cheaper to fix. The shifter slides, but it doesn't really feel like it is fully engaging sometime. Neutral isn't truly neutral, and it still moves in park, when I put it in drive, it takes it a second to engage when I hit the gas, but then after that there is no lag.. but it doesn't sound or feel like the tranny is slipping, I unfortnatly know that feeling from a previous vehicle...
