need shifter for Toyo Kogyo 5 speed from 1986
My transmission shop has finished rebuilding the Toyo Kogyo 5 speed manual tranny from my 1986 Ranger 2.0 liter. All except for the shifter, which was completely worn out.
Does anyone know where to get a replacement? The only thing I've found is a "TK5 shifter" kit on drivetrain.com, for about $270.

If this is the same as my 87 the teflon ball on the trans end of the shifter is gone. When the ball broke & fell down into the trans at 30 MPH I felt the truck jerk & heard a loud bang.
The only place I could find a new shift lever & ball about 10 years ago was at the dealer.
The dealer was mighty proud of it at-OUCH-70 bucks.
If the dealer no longer carries it, a machine shop can turn a ball out of metal.

Hopefully the dealer can still pull up the exploded view of the linkage. Better yet they might be able to sell you only the parts you need.
I googled TK-5 shift linkage but nothing came up. Phoenixhardparts.com used to sell this sort of thing, but I see they are out of business now.
Good luck with it.

you want to make the ball from nylon as it is kind of a wear part. I have used a 1966 VW black heater **** drilled out about 3/8 and then turned down to 17 mm outside dia. been about 6 mos so far, no problems. the other parts are nylon also and can be made anywhere a lathe is handy or a mill with a big conical endmill.
BTW it was NOS and german.
