I have a 2001 F350 XLT 4x4 sc that did not come with keyless entry they told me at the Ford place that I could get one from them and I was wondering what all was involved in putting this in the dealer was not much help I guess they just wanted more of my money. I would apreciate any help that you all could give me on this thank you in advance.
I hooked up my keyless (on a '78) through my aftermarket alarm. All that was required was to splice into the correct wires that go between the two doors. I even have the diagrams. Real easy!
Do you really want the OEM keyless entry? Not that it's bad...it just seems that you can get an aftermarket alarm or even remote start that has this capability, plus a few value added features, for probably less $$.
yes I think that I want to go with the OEM keyless entry they told me it was only $186.30 I didnt think that was too bad of a price. the remote start wont work on mine anyway I have a manual transmission. I am just tired of standing in the rain fumbling around for my keys to unlock the door if you know what I mean
what all is involved in putting one in do I just have to plug something into my computer and it will work or what the guy at the dealership said something about having a keyless entry module already on my truck he said if it had one then it would not be that big of a deal to put one on but if i did not then there would need to be some extra wireing done this is for the OEM part would it be the same for an after market I am clueless when it comes to things like this
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Jan-02 AT 04:04 PM (EST)]Well you can go the OEM route, but buying two remotes would probably cost you more than an aftermarket kit that should give you starter kill, and probably parking light flash too.
With the aftermarket kit, there should be four wires coming out of it that you would splice into the positive and negative wires that go between the two switches.
look in the owners manual, i think you cycle the key four times and it will go into a program mode, the locks will jump up and down. if it does this all you need to do is go back to the dealership and buy a remote. go back into program mode again, let the locks jump and hit the lock button on the remote and you are done.
On my '01 F-250 I had the dealer install keyless entry and I found it when I hooked up my brake controller. They tie-wrapped a module to the steering column behind the dash. It looks like they just plugged it in to a pre-existing wiring plug. What I don't like about it is it's disabled with the truck running. Someday when I'm feeling ambitious I'll try to fix that.
