I heard that on the 2001 F-250 XLT that they all come with the keyless entry and that all you need to do is to buy the remote, is this true. PLEASE HELP ME I'm now poor with this recent buy and to watch every $$ thanks to all
You can always try to reprogram a remote to find out. I know that the directions are on here somewhere. they describe how to program a new remote to the system. The keyless module lets you know that it is in programming mode by locking and then unlocking the doors. If you try the procedure and you don't have a keyless module the locks won't do anything.
try to program one without having a remote yet. This way you can find out if your truck came with one. Also the module is located above the gas pedal. I think it says right on it keyless. It should be mounted closest to the fire wall. If it is an empty space then better luck next time.
If you have the owners manual, it gives the instructions to program a remote. I would go out and get mine to check, but it is close to zero out. If I remember, you turn the switch on and off 8? times and then push one of the remote buttons. If it programs the doors with lock or unlock. Probably most late model ford truck remotes with three buttons would work. I've seen them on ebay for about $10-$15, but haven't gotten around to getting any myself. There weren't any with my truck when I bought it.(used)
I kind of have the same thing. I just got a used 2001 F250 CC 4X4 LB with 2 remotes that didn't work. I put new batteries in and nothing. Tried the power on/off 12 times thing and nothing. My book didn't have much about this. The dealer told me about $30. to program it. I'll check under the dash to see if it is even there.

I think it's only 5 times. Key on/off 5 times and if you have that system the doors will automatically lock. If they don't lock, then your truck is not equipped with keyless entry.
Looked under the dash and didn't see a "door lock box" but did see a few cut off wires comming from the same bunch that goes to that open plug above driver's rt. knee. I guess about 5? No tape nothing on the ends. All cut even.
THANKS

Bought my '01 off the lot. The only option I wanted that it didn't have was the keyless remote. Bought a Bulldog remote start for about $70. Comes with the keyless entry. Added a couple of relays and now have keyless remote start, keyless entry, and dome light delay for less than $80. Took about 4 hours to install.
Basically, all you have to do is cycle the key in the ignition from "off" to "run" 8 times, ending on run, all within 30 seconds. The vehicle will beep, and will be ready to accept programming of remotes.
Try this and see if it beeps. If it doesn't go the first time, try a few more times. Sometimes it's hard to get it all done before 30 seconds.
It did come with keyless entry. For the factory installed option the keyless entry is part of the GEM module. This module is in all 2001 Superduty pickups.
It is a general purpose computer module that handles such things as the automatic hub sequecidng. Shifting the transfer case on the electronic shift modle. Delay Wipers. Keyless entry and other things.
It is mounted to the rear of the fuse box. It does not have any label saying it is keyless entry.
I just installed an after market alarm so I had to trace out all the keyless entry circuits so I am very famialer with them at the moment.
The programing sequance for the Keyless entry is in the owners manual. If you do not have an owners manual you can order one from the helm inc. web site.
to see if you have keyless, look at youre power distribution box under hood and your owners manual. There is a keyless entry fuse if you have keyless. If you do, then pull out the ash tray and stick your hand through the opening and up to the firewall in the center of the dash and youll find your keyless entry solonoids (sp?)
