Getting set to install a class III hitch and electric brake controller on my '94 F150:
I've got the hitch from my '78 F150 and it LOOKS like it will fit, anyone tried this? will it fit?
And on the brake controller: I've got Tekonsha Voyager model, and I have the factory trailer package on my truck with the plug just under the ash tray.
Tekonsha says to connect the RED (stoplight) wire from the controller to the Green wire on the Ford wireing, but what about the rest?? I've got a blue, brown, white, and red wire left on the Ford wireing, and a black, white and blue wires left on the Tekonsha unit.
Is there possibly info in my owners manual on what the Ford wires are for?? or can someone please explain this to me.
The hitch should fit. On the brake controller, blue is the wire that goes to the back of the truck to operate the trailer brakes. Two of the other wires are ground and 12v+ for powering the controller. I don't remember what colors they are. Go to the Tekonsha website www.tekonsha.com to see what thier wire colors are for.
I just checked the wiring diagram for my '92 F350 and it shows 4 wires for the brake controller:
Blue for trailer brakes,
White for ground,
Light Green for brake light switch,
and Red for 12v power.
Brown wire isn't shown on this diagram.
You should be able to trace the brake light switch wire pretty easily under the dash. You may need to insert a 30A Maxi fuse in location 'T' (middle row, second one down) in the fuse box in the engine compartment to get power to the trailer brakes. This is all according to the wiring diagram for '92 F-series trucks.

Thanks! I went to the Tekonsha website, found that a special harness is made to hook up the controller to my truck's factory plug, but can't seem to get the wireing diagrams large enough to read from there, I kind of think that I'm going to take the controller, and tha hitch to my local auto parts/marine/trailer guy and have them install both for me.
