I am doing some welding on my hood, repairing a dent and a crack on the hood catch. I took the plate from the hood,( the piece that holds the latch and the spring) turned it upside down and hit it with a mallet to straighten out a small dent. When I did the spring popped off. I have no idea how it should go back on. Does anyone have a picture of how it should look??
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
On my 54 it was: spring over the nut, then the dish washer, then the threaded male piece to hold everything in place. I don't know if the earlier models were the same. Good luck, John
John,
That's not what I'm talking about. The spring I'm talking about holds the latch in place on the hood itself. When you pull the handle, to open the hood, the spring pulls it back in place. I need to know where it hooks to after it is put on the pin where it rests.
OOPS, Sorry, I jumped to a conclusion. I don't think I ever had to take mine off. It would seem that there would be some type of post to hook the spring on to. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help. John
Thought I might be able to help out with a picture, but it's going to be another day or so for the PB Blaster to soak so I can get the latch assembly off the hood. You know how it is. From what I can see the spring wraps clockwise around the stud looking down from above the hood, and it hooks onto a vertical part of the latch piece toward the front of the hood. Hard to see because where it hooks on is right below a bracket sort of piece probably for the release handle mechanism.
