The bed on my '78 is spray-on lined both inside and over the rails. I then put on a ******* hard tenneau (sp?) cover. I love it. I plan on doing the same thing to my '03 Ranger sometime in the near future. I would recommend a spray on liner as water and debris can still get in under the plastic bedliner and eventually rust. Just make sure you find someone experienced in spraying them in!
as far as bed covers go i would go with a soft tonneau cover. hard covers can only open up so much and if you have something large you have to remove the entire cover, where as a soft cover you can just roll it up and take out the cross bars that hold it up. i just like being able to have full use of my bed without having to remove a fiberglass cover and find a place to stick it while it's off. but then again it all depends on what you want to use the bed for and the amount and size of the stuff you are hauling in the bed.
I'm looking at the same problem with my '99 Ranger X-cab. I have a bed liner now and would like something to cover the bed. A hard cover looks great, but I don't want to have to take it off for large items. Do any of you use a soft cover that is easy to roll up in cold and warm weather? All ideas are welcome.
I'd recommend a Pace Edwards retractable tonneau cover. You can get electric or manual retraction and they look really nice. IMHO. Prices range from about $620-1400 depending on what model you get.
i have a soft tonneau cover and it is extremely easy to roll up, all you do is unsnap the cover and roll it up behind the rear window. i got mine for a little over 100 and i love it. it just bolts on so there is no drilling involved.
I have a 2000 Ranger with the flairside and a plastic bed liner. I've also been thinking about this - trying to decide between hard/soft, tonneau/shell.
I would only need it for camping, maybe some covered hauling. I'm not too concerned about theft as it would be down or put away most of the time - and any item inside would only be there for a special trip, in which case, it would always be under supervision. The biggest advantages I see are the flexibility and ease of removal.
I would appreciate some thoughts/opinions.
Also, which do you think would look better with Ford's "Harvest Gold" paint: tan or black? (Black could get REALLY hot in summer.) Thanks.

Rangerman255,
Is yours a velcro or snap (plastic or steel), type? Brand?
This is the way I'm leaning.
