Where to find?

Ok I wana get chrome or stamped steel bed rail covers. The things that protect the top of the bed edges. Lmc has them for short beds but I have a long bed. I also need them to have the holes for tie downs. Anyone know where to get them?

The 8' bed rails are obsolete, were originally sold as a kit. No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

At one time there were over 20 8' bed rail kits available NOS, but once I listed the part number and the sources that had them, members bought them all within a short time.

These rails did not come with tie down holes. FoMoCo sold separate chrome tie downs, most long beds had three on each side, 2 on the tailgate.

These tie downs have been reproduced by Dennis Carpenter, illustrated/listed on page 103 of his 1967/79 truck repro parts catalog: @ $20.00 each.

I believe Dennis Carpenter will be reproducing them soon. Maybe wrong but I think that is what I heard. Can't believe LMC doesn't make 8 footers. I was going to get a set. Then cut holes for the retractable tow hooks.

Yea I want the holes for the little tow hooks. Will 1980 rail covers work?

I would think it would because the internal part of the bed is the same just the bedsides are different.

If Carpenter reproduces the original 8' bed rails, they will be an exact match to the type used 1968/91. These bed rails have no tie down holes.

Edit: Short & long Bed rails shown here: 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog / Body Illustration Section 200, Page 11.

FTE member mikeo0o0o0 has this catalog on a CD, will scan/post pics from it. Send Mike a p/m or an email, ask him to do so.

Ford never offered any "little tow" nor tie down hooks either. All that was available was: D3TZ-9900064-A tie down which Carpenter has repro'd. I alluded to these in post 2.

Carpenter's catalogs inre to the repop 8' bed rails have said "coming" since 2008.

FTE member Phil105, posts in the 1967/72 forum, has short bed Styleside, wanted the rails. I found him a set, they are pictured on his truck in his gallery.

Other members wanted these rails, so I typed the sources. There are a few of these short bed rail dealer installed kits still available NOS, but none for long beds.

I'd say they would work.

He is talking about plastic or metal flat plates to cover the top edge of the bed, not the rails.....right?

It is a hit and miss if a 80's will fit, I think the bed top edge angle changes??

You might try a set for a 96-99 Dodge, I took a set off my dads 96 Dodge and test fit them on a 79 Ford quite a while back.

If I remember right they were pretty close to working as far a matching the curve.

Here is a good thread below and some say some for a 86-97 will fit?

Ford never offered these flat plates for anything. They're aftermarket, sold by autoparts stores, specialty shop like autoanything.com.

The 1992/96 bed rails are a different design than what was used 1968/91, 1997 and later is different again.
