I have a F250 with a lot of extras. I use it as a daily commuter and also to pull a 33 ft fifth wheel toy hauler. I have been reading lately about a diablo Sport shifter valve that will firm up my shifting and possibly increase longevity of my tranny. Any body out there have such an upgrade? Good, bad? Just curious. Also should I go with Diablo or with the Rapter? I currently have a diablo predator micro tuner and I love it. Thinking I should stay with what is working for me.
I'm thinking about getting the Sonnex valve and Tricumulator springs for my truck too but are they something that a DIY'er can do? Are they really as easy as the directions make it sound?
It's not a bad job, but it is messy, you do need an inch pound torque wrench, 10 and 8 mm sockets, small needle nose pliers, ability to work with small parts, a good clean bench area. Lots of clean rags or shop towels.
Most of all, be clean and careful not to get anything in the valve body.
A drain pan for the fluid, a large drip tray or piece of cardboard, as transmissions drip forever.
Be ready for a gush of fluid when removing the filter and the valve body. Be ready for fluid on your bench from the valve body.
A lot simpler than the shift kit I installed on my 1999 F150 (had to drill holes in the valve body separator plate) and not as messy.
Most important, take your time, be clean. Easy to understand instructions, easy to complete in about 2 hours.
