I see a lot of Tymar and homade changes looking to replicate tymar.
Has anyone tried modifying their stock airbox by drilling mulitple random holes using a hole saw, to allow it to breath better, much like the tymar.
It seems with this thought that you would get close to tymar airflow with out the initial cost and filter cost. It would probably be a few less cubic inches of air intake, but the truck would remain looking stock.
My guess is that it wouldn't do all that much. It certainly wouldn't have as much airflow as an upgrade intake.
If you're on a limited budget, there are several posts on home-built Tymar clones that cost about $30. Or you could just buy the "real" Tymar for less than $200.
If you want to keep the stock look and upgrade, consider the Ford AIS which can be purchased for <$200 as well.
No I was in the Army for 8.5 I flew Cobras in Desert Storm and Apaches in Bosnia, I was a commissioned guy. I did get a pretty good amount of time 1200+ hours before it wasn't fun anymore. Now I work for Air Force Helos as a contractor.
I moded mine like the pics in the link. Just put it back to stock now. I feel that the filter gets dirty too quickly, and the more I clean it the more the gasket on the k&n comes off. I wanna get a new intake with a clamp on but cannot afford it now.
