Speedometer is stuck

My sppedometer quit working. It seems to be a clearance issue with the shaft that turns inside the unit. If you push on the shaft the needle won't move. If you let go it will release. When the cable is hooked up it pushes on it no matter how loose the cable is. Anybody know how to fix this?

Sounds like your speedo is plum wore out.

Did you replace the cable anytime in the past?
Maybe the inner cable was too long and was pushing on shaft?

Might be in store for a new gauge package?

The only guage and panel kits I see out there are the ones Gtex uses and they are made by haneline. They are very nice but extremely expensive. I have not seen too many F600 guages either. I asked Haneline today how much a pre-drilled panel would b e and they said $180. The autometer guages to go with it are quite expensive. I am looking into the possibility of removing part of the material on the stock bezel and attaching a piece of stained wood to it and drilling hols for a speedo myself. I think it would work great! It already has the screw bosses in the right place to mount a board.

Now I have heard that the way you drive you don't need a speedometer. You could use a pedometer! -hehe

I don't get it Eric??? Sorry. If you are saying I drive slow then (ped=foot) then yeah you are right. I was only going about 40MPH when it buried itself and stayed there. I drive slow but I get to my cruising speed in quite a hurry. I haven't had a speeding ticket yet to date and that is probably why. If I ever get this dang thing together again then we will have to get to that dyno.

I think I know what I am going to do. I will post pics when I am done so you can either drool or laugh at me depending on how it turns out. I am going to remove part of the bezel and attach a nice stained piece of wood to it. I will pain the bezel black to make it look nicer. I am planning on installing an Autometer sport comp speedo and some matching fuel and vacuum guages. The oil pressure and temp can stay in the under dash mount for now. They are sunpros anyway. This will run me a total of 147.78 plus shipping and wood costs. If it doesn't work then I still have the correct guages for the haneline dash kit.

U-joints, speedometer, valve body and shifter are down right now. They should all be easy fixes but you know how things often go. I'm hitting the FE Nationals do or die!

Yes ped=foot

You need a whole sack of them round tuits. I will share if I find some if you will do the same

I am trying to find a voltmeter that reads right to replace the ammeter in my gage cluster. I may just have to use one out of a later model exploder but there are no scale markings on them. I have a line on a possible transplant from a 280Z. The worst problem is that the meter reads upside down. I already have my 100mph speedo to go in. I will have to punch a hole thru the face for the high beam indicator tho.

Would Haneline sell you the black plastic panel without the stainless insert for less? Surely, that would cost a good bit less.

Well I ordered the Autometer Sport Comp 120MPH speedo and the matching vacuum and fuel guage. I'll keep you all updated on the progress. I threw in a driveshaft safety loop too. Might as well huh?
