Does anyone know if SuperTech is a gropu I or II oil? Also what is the additive package like for the 10W30; does it have moly, a good amount of boron and zinc, whats the flash point, ect...? Does anyone have any worries about using this oil?
I use the 5w30, It has Moly but the 10w30 doesnt. I went 5 months without an oil change and noticed the oil pressure was falling pretty fast so I changed it. Pressure is back up and good to go. I wouldnt go more than 2500 miles on this oil. I had 3500 miles on it and it looked pretty bad. There is no point to extend drains because it is so cheap. A complete oil change for $7.50. A guy could change it every 2000 miles on not even blink an eye.
I stick with the good stuff like Valvoline for my vehicles and use the Wally world stuff for my old lawnmowers. I don't think the savings is worth the risk unless it is for an old clunker that uses/leaks oil as fast as you can add it.
i use this oil for everything and all of the side jobs i do (alot)! the oil gets dark because its cleaning ur engine. all my engines and the ones i see back often are very clean. most important thing is change every 3000.
would i pay 2.00$ a quart for it? no but at .84$ its fantastic!
if u want proof i use it in my supercharged 5.0 mustang with 190,000 miles never a problem

For the very small difference in price at Wal-Mart, with Super-Tech oil, just use a quality, name brand oil such as Chevron Supreme or Mobil's dino "Drive Clean" lubricants? Both Chevron and Mobil 10W30, are a bargain at Wal-Mart. Ed PS Motorcraft oil filters @ $2.77 is the reason I have at least ten FL400-S on the shelf in my garage at all times...
Its not that I feel SuperTech is junk. I hear its Quaker State. Its more along the lines that if it is QS, its a generic version of Quaker State. I dont trust generic brands in everything. Generic q-tips, cool. Generic life blood of my truck, no, not yet.
If it works out and does great in your truck, awsome, genuinely glad to hear it. It is in my push mower, maybe even the riding mower, thats as far as the confidence gets me.
1. So-called name-brand store oils such as that from Wal-Mart [ST], Advance Auto, Pep Boys [Pro-line], and AutoZone are not made by their respective seller. They are re-packaged versions of other readily available oils. It is like going to a large name brand department store and actually believing that Hechts/Belk/.Target/Dillard's, etc made the pants you are buying.
What you are buying isd Havoline/PennZoil/Vavloine, etc with a different stamp on theb outside of the plastic bottle;
2. Look at the rating of the oil on the back. It is a stamp on tham that showes the service grade of the oil. The stamp is from the American Petroleum Institute [API rating] This is the key.
Walmarts oils are sourced from various suppliers like Quaker State or Warren and others that would like to bid for that specific contract. The specs are fairly general in regards to the oils needed. Example: Petroleum based engine oil, GF-3, rated for SL service, 10w-30. There are no specs for flashpoint, pour point, etc. Is it worth using? It will generally out perform the "brand" name price point oils providing that you use the severe duty maintenace schedule. This should put your Ford engines at about 3500 miles between changes. It will usually produce lower wear metals in analysis but the TBN suffers as the oil accumulates miles. I would not recommend it for real life severe duty.
It is definetely made by Quaker State and is not a cheaper version of their oil. There is also a SuperTech full synthetic oil and a synthetic blend. I really don't think that Quaker State would set up a whole different production line just to produce some cheaper oil. IMO. BTW, I know it's Quaker State because I work in the Wal-Mart automotive dept. and the SuperTech is ordered from Quaker State.

QS will use the same base stock, but the additive package may vary from brand name QS.
Yesterday I poured equall amounts of Quaker State, Valvoline, Pennzoil, and SuperTech into different glass jars to see the color/smell ect... While I still think the SuperTech is made by Quaker State, the ST has the EXACT same color and smell as the Valvoline. The Quaker State is a little darker than the ST and the Valvoline. Interesting though is that the Pennzoil is by far the darkest oil I have ever seen. It is so dark brown/red it is almost black. When you hold it upto the light it is a really dark amber color. The other three oils were a nice golden color.

You need to get a job as one of those perfume smellers over in France.
