Better he work the perfume counter than the test testing booth, thats my job. The biggest difference, I wont taste test Pennzoil. Arnold Palmer never convinced me of its rich robust palatability.

Pennzoil is a dull tasting oil. If you want a rich, full-bodied oil try the Castrol GTX or Mobil Drive Clean. Your taste buds will be in heaven!

I know that wal-mart contracts with various refineries.
a few years ago I know Pennzoil was under contract with them.
got that info from a reliable source ( a wal-mart purchasing agent) who is a freind of mine, he no longer works for wally world.

So I you never really know who's oil your putting in your vehicles
when you buy store brands, that goes for all store brands.
weather it be a discount store or even NAPA auto parts.
as a matter of fact there's a local auto parts store here who's
store brand oil filter is made by WIX,and it's half the price of
a regular WIX filter . maybe it's a lower grade,

The Pennzoil-QuakerState company was purchased by Shell. I assume that Pennzoil and QS oil are similar oils. So, when your contact said that Wally world got its oil from Pennzoil maybe he meant the Pennzoil-QuakerState company, which is where they still get their oil from.

It would appear Shell/Quaker State/Texaco is just about the same thing anymore.

Does anyone in these forums regularly use SuperTech oil and filters in their vehicles? Does anyone have high miles (like over 100k - 150k miles) on their vehicles using only "house brand" motor oils most of the vehicles life?

BTW does anyone know if SuperTech uses a hydrocracked base oil (group II) or is it just a group I that uses solvent refining?

I've done 30K+ in a Caddy. No problems.

Lots and lots of cars, but I trade often, so not many miles.

My whole family makes Scrooge look generous. They only run the cheapest stuff that they can find. My brother buys used Accords at around 80K and drives them until 150K+. He's done this about 3 times. No problems. Put well over 100K on a 1980 Corolla. No problems.

My other brother put over 100K on a V-6 Explorer. No problems. Uses Firestone for oil changes. Don't know what oil, but probably not premium stuff. Always uses a coupon.

This was posted on another forum:

One of the most well-known and extensive (and most expensive ever), tests done, was by a magazine. Consumer Reports in a 1996 issue, released results from tests done by numerous engineers (mechanical and chemical I believe). They tested a fleet of NYC taxis over 100000 miles, broke down the engines and took various measurements, kept logs, etc. They determined that no single oil outperformed any other - and that included a store-chain brand vs a high-end synthetic. They indicated that if a person followed reasonable oil change intervals (with filter), and using properly rated (SAE and API) oils, that wear and maintenance would be virtually identical. It was a very good article. It reinforced my practice of using the cheapest, but properly rated and routinely changed oils I can find. I have yet to have to tear down ANY engine in any vehicle I have owned. Currently, my wife's Grand Cherokee (5.2 liter V8) has 250,000 kms on a very hard driven engine. It has seen duty pulling a 5000 lb trailer through and over very tough conditions. So far, a water pump is the only mechanical part replaced. 3000 mile oil changes using Walmart 10w30 or other cheap oil is all it's seen. It recently passed Air-Care (emmission testing) with barely noticeable emmissions.

I emailed Pennzoil-Quaker State and asked them if SuperTech is a group I or a group II oil and they said they didn't know even though they said that they blend and bottle the oil for Wal-Mart.

How many miles is 250,000 kms? Also, jschira what brand oil filter do you use?

1 KM = about 6/10 miles, so 150,000 miles.

I use whatever filter is on sale and/or cheapest. Usually SuperTech. AZ sells Deutch and STP pretty cheap too. Both made by Champion Labs, who makes ST.

Pennzoil/Quaker has never made filters. Their own were made by Facet and more recently Fram. I think I saw somewhere that the SuperTech filters were made by Champion.
