I bought this explorer as a program car and it had a class II hitch so I purchased class III from Ford which came with the additional harness to replace the class II-flat-pin connection with the class III harness that goes from bumper to frame wiring harness.
The wiring needed for brake control seems to be there in frame wiring but I cannot
locate the other end that I would think would be underdash somewhere. In my owners manual there is a fuse for brake controller which is already installed.
I have same issue with my 04 Explorer. Standard class 2 (w/out tow upgrade) looking for brake control wiring harness. Got advice from fordparts.com that all I need is part number 3L2Z15A416AA (about $10); however I haven't received explanation as to where this plugs into. I will post results when part arrives - if you got the answer, please let me know.
