hey I have a question I put a new set of tires on my 00 ex this week and I went from 265/75/16s to 285/75/16s.They look so much better (and dont scrub by the way)but my wife called me and told me the milage display had dropped from our usual miserable 11.5 to around 9. I am sure that the tires (being wider and taller) will cause a modest decrease in gas mileage but not that much that fast.I feel like I need to recalibrate my ex with the new tire size because if the mileage computer works off the vehicle speed sensor it would definately be lower.Does anyone know how to do this?..............sharkwhit
The dealer can do it, but will charge u...
Some aftermarket programmers also can do that...
Call our friendly neighborhood Motorhaven staff, I'll bet they can help you AND get your more Oomph and mpg at the same time !
Same thing happened when we upgraded tire sizes. On the bright side, we got 14.2 mpg on a recent 800 mile trip which involved going over the Continental Divide twice and over two other passes; never at less than 80 mph! Sure beat our VW van we traded in for the X. And for only 3 mpg less, I'll drive the X all day!
There's about 3.7% additional circumference in the 285/75 vs. the 265/75. This will vary marginally across manufacturers/tires. I based my number on a 33" diameter (my Yokohama Geolander HT/S 285/75) and 31.8" (same tire in a 265/75).
So, you can roughly add 3.7% to the MPG you see on the overhead display, and the same to the speed your speedometer is reading.
