No DJ on CD

I have a 95 Ford Explorer with the built-in 6 CD changer in the armrest console. I believe it's the Clarion unit.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. No rhyme or reason.

When it doesn't work I get the message "No DJ" on the radio even though the CD cartridge is in the unit. Also, when it's not working I cannot remove the cartridge. It acts like there is no power to the unit.

I can start the car a day later, press CD on the radio and it works just fine. It may go for a week then stop working again.

Anyone got a clue what is going on?

Thanks

No DJ means that a disk changer was not recognized or not present. Check cable connections, both in back of radio and on cd changer.
