hello ratsmoker, I am new here at FTE as a member. however I have used this site for referance material before as a guest. so did you ever try the romac balancer? I read in an old post along time ago you were thinking abought it. I am in need of a good street replacement for my worn out stock unit. looking foward to your reply.
Welcome to FTE!!!
Nope, but I will on my next rebuild. I got a stock damper from DSC and drilled it to match. No ill effects yet. The Romac seems to be the best deal out there.
thanks for the fed back. from what I have read here at FTE, I think I am going to go with the ROMAC unit. I gota do something soon. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Well I called the guys at Custom Performance Racing and questioned them if the new ROMAC unit would need to be driled to match my old unit. the answer was yes. the problem I have with this is the old unit came from my old 390, I replaced the engine three years ago. but had no problems that I can tell with vibration. the recent problem with the outer ring moveing is whats driveing the train on the ballancer replacement. so does any body have some input on this? CPR recomended removeing the crak shat and haveing the ballancer matched to it. looking for some in put.
To do it right you need to remove the crank rods and pistons and have it balanced. I used another identical balancer and drilled it to match. You would be wasting your time with drilling the romac as it is probably lighter.
thats what I was afraid you were gona say. with in the next two weeks or so I will be removeing the cab and bed for restoration any way. that will be the best time.
