I have a 352 that I want to use as a daily driver this summer. Looking for some easy budget upgrades or sugestions. (Not looking to crack open the motor and make a 360/390) The top end is still somewhat fresh. I plan to change to a pertronix or comparable ignition. How do the stock manifolds flow?? are they fairly smooth or restrictive? Would headers gain much? I am sure intake and carb would be a nice upgrade but for the cost would it be worth it if I only use the 352 for a summer or two? If I did, how big of a carb should I go? I know the stock 460's like the fuel, but I don't want to choke my 352 and a bit of gas milage wouldn't hurt either. Are heads a better upgrade than intake/carb?
Thanks,
66MM
Edelbrock heads are a good investment, but they cost $$$$. I wouldn't suggest it for a 352 only driven a summer or two.
Here's what I suggest:
1. Headers. This is a must. The stock exhaust logs just plain SUCK.
2. 4 barrel intake manifold. This is essential for good mileage and power. If you like cheap big heavy things, a stock 4 barrel intake will work great. If you like light slightly more expensive ones, an edelbrock performer will work great. I'd suggest the performer (not the RPM) for mileage, since it'll keep the velocity up a little higher.
3. Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary. Choose manual or electric choke to your liking.
4. If you feel like doing a cam change, either the Crane 343901 or the Edelbrock Performer cam. The ed cam will make more low end torque, the crane more power. If you want even moe hp, go with the Crane 343941. If you're obsessed with hp, go with the 343801. Dont forget the new lifters with the cam.
Thanks Rusty,
A set of headers and exhaust shouldn't set me back too much, and we'll see where we go from there. The search for HP can be costly, so I'll save that for my weekend driver .
