Question about the acetone-ing....Wouldn't it just be easier to take the emblems off the truck...then do it on a flat surface and make sure it dries? I thought the emblems are on there using a double-sided tape....i don't kno if i am right but thought i would throw it out there cause i am doing it this weekend...
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Mar-02 AT 03:33 PM (EST)]They generally need to be pried off , and if your not careful, the paint may scratch. If you can get them off easy, why not, I did mine on the truck with no problem.
I was thinking of doing mine last night but the weather started to not cooperate. Hopefully it will this weekend. Are there any suggestions or tips you guys have?
Warm weather brings the acetone out from Monsta's garage!
I acetoned my Excursion emblems yesterday. Looks cool!
Has anyone done or seen engine badges (not PSD) that have been acetone? I have three engine badges on my truck but wasn't sure if they would look right.
If you want your truck to "stand out" or you're just bored and want to do something cheap to change the look of your truck. This is an easy mod. Just wear gloves.
All I used was a small cloth and 100% acetone. Took all of 5 minutes per emblem. I taped them off but hear that washing the area down with soapy water, to include the badge, will work also. After the black is off I used a clean cloth and "rinsed" it with clean acetone.
Walla, instant chrome emblem! I'll add pics to my gallery later...
I too did mine last week. It looks great on a SD. It was a PITA to tape around the V10 badges considering it only took a few minutes to acetone them. I will try to get the rig washed up later this week and get the digicam out to snap off some pics.
Did my stinkin badges last weekend, wow what a sight on a black F250.:-staun Has anyone got a picture of the Triton V-10 badge that has been acetoned??
