I thought the baffles were in the exhaust(mufler), not the intake?

There's a silencer in the air tube between the air filter box and the throttle body. Some guys use a stretch of PVC pipe to replace it with.
The HP gain is minimal and the throaty air intake sound is increased.

There is a piece of pipe coming into the filter box. Maybe thats what they are talking about. I left mine on though, because if removed it lets air from the engine compartment in, instead of getting cold air from outside.

I have seen many tests done that say the air in your engine compartment is only a few degrees warmer than ambient at best. So I dont think removing the baffle would hurt anything.

BTW, does anyone know where to buy a piece of stainless pipe at?

Then why do people spend several hundred dollars for "cold air intakes" if it doesnt matter?

You can probably get a piece of stainless at a metal shop. We have a couple around here, but i know that doesnt help you wherever you are.

It's not cold air. The main thing a "cold air intake" helps with is letting the engine breathe more freely. The "cold air" part is probably just a way to get people to buy one.

That is a advertisong technique on the part of True Rv Induction company. They say the temp doesnt matter, but look at the price. <$90, when a true cold air intake is >$220.

I can find more, but this was the first one i found. the "tests" will show that whatever they are selling is the best. The fact is that cooler air does increase HP, but to what extent. The manufacturers will tell you that theirs is the best, but the question is, who do you believe?

I know that cooler air increases HP because it is more dense that hot air. Which means you get more air into your engine. What they are saying is that the air around your airbox is not much hotter than outside air. And the $90 kit is not a cold air intake. It uses the stock air intake tube and replaces the airbox assembly with a powerstack filter.
