I have an 2000 F-250 SC PSD 2WD and the power steering pump is loud as hell, I can hear it well over the PSD. I have taken it to the dealer and they replaced it with a refurbished pump. My mechanic keeps saying that all ford power steering pumps make noise and there is no options. I find this hard to believe, please advise on any action I can take.
Thanks
After I had the pump replaced I expected the noise to be gone. It did decrease a little but it's still there. The fluid level is in specs.
I'm at 31000 miles and feel the 36000 warranty closing in. I want to know if there is anything I can have the dealer do to silence the pump?
Ask to drive a couple of other (new) trucks to see if they make the same noise. If they do, then the noise is "normal". If they don't make the same noise, you have a solid foundation for getting another replacement. Don't let them BS you.
not sure about an answer but i can tell you that I have a 99 model with a now very noisy power steering pump and the fluid level is fine I would like to hear of a cure for this one two.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Apr-02 AT 10:14 AM (EST)]Does this pump make constant noise or only when turning?
If only when turning I would also tell them look at the steering box itself.
raise the truck on lift no weight on front axle ,turn wheel lock to lock
things to chk
box itself ,ball joints, ,are you running oversize tires,(tend to put alot of strain on steering components)
Just my .02
